Microrobotic Cell Injection
We are tackling a series of cell manipulation tasks by developing innovative micro device and robotic technologies. This video shows the operation of our robotic cell injection system (video status up to 05/2009). With the high-speed system, we quantified the efficacy of mitochondrial proteins on rescuing mouse embryos. The biological results are under review. The human ICSI system is presently in clinical trial in Toronto. Our work on this topic were reported in [J68], [J67], and [J31] on the Publications page.
NanoNewton Microgripping for Biomaterial Characterization
Our MEMS microgrippers are monolithic silicon devices, integrating microactuators and two-axis force sensors that are capable of resolving nanoNewton forces. The video shows closed-loop force controlled grasping of a drug-delivery microcapsule (20 microns in diameter). A nanoNewton constant force is applied to quantify viscoelastic parameters of the microcapsules. For details, refer to [J39] and [J34] on the Publications page.
