Fruitfly Flight Force Measurements
This was an earlier study Y. Sun conducted at ETH-Zurich. Sun developed MEMS micro force sensors with a configuration of differential tri-plate comb drives and a technique for measuring both aerodynamic and inertial forces of Drosophila in real time. The study provided valuable data for understanding Drosophila neurophysiology. For details, refer to [J11] on the Publications page.
Mechanically Stimulating Cell Culture
Cell function is directed by several factors in the microenvironment. This video shows a micro array that applies a range of mechanical strains to cell culture. Across the array, strains from 0 to 25% are applied simultaneously to adherent cell populations to determine cellular response to mechanical forces.
